PRFC NV Recreation Soccer Program

Anthem Community Council Recreational soccer

In Partnership with PRFC North Valley

PRFC North Valley is the biggest youth soccer club in Anthem, we predominantly have an Anthem based membership with players and families traveling in from North Phoenix as our club grows. We have competitive teams for U8-U16 Boys and Girls. We train at Anthem community park, Our higher level teams play games all over the State and our younger teams play their home games at OWP and Anthem community park.

PRFC North Valley is one of six branches that is a part of the pyramid for Phoenix Rising FC.

We are extremely excited to partner with the Rec soccer program. Our aim as the biggest soccer club in Anthem is to develop a pathway for kids to play soccer. The pathway would start with the Recreational soccer program, if this is as far as a player wants to take their soccer interest then we believe the program can meet their needs. If a player would like to try the next step up, competitive soccer, we believe we are the best option. The pathway does not stop there as there are Regional, National and Professional leagues and competitions players can move onto within the Rising pyramid.

PRFC North Valley will be providing support to Anthem Rec soccer in the following ways.

Coaching Education:

PRFC North Valley will be holding Coaching education prior to the first games of the season. This will help coaches understand how to design a session plan for practice, help them understand the rules, and be a season long resource for coaches who need help or guidance with their teams.

We will also provide some Technical direction for what is an appropriate session for each age group, with session plans for coaches.

Each rec coach/team will also have the opportunity to have a paid coach from PRFC North Valley come and run a session for their team once during the season. This can be invaluable in seeing how a session can flow and how to keep the kids engaged.

Rules and formats:

PRFC North Valley has helped realign the formats each age will play in. It makes sense for the Rec soccer player to play in the same format as their competitive peers. If the Rec soccer player wants to make the step up to competitive soccer, it is a far easier transition.

3 &4 yr olds will play 3v3.

The game will consist of 4 quarters of 6 minutes in length. New rule changes will include Kick ins instead of throw ins, and on goal kicks the team without the ball retreating to the halfway line before the ball is kicked.

5 & 6 Yr olds and 7 &8 yr olds will play 4v4.

5 & 6 Yr olds will play 4, 8 minute quarters.

7 & 8 Yr olds will play 4, 10 minute quarters.

New rule changes will include Kick ins instead of throw ins, and on goal kicks the team without the ball retreating to the half way before the ball is kicked.

9 & 10 Yr olds will play 7v7.

This is 6 field players and a Goalkeeper.

The game will have 25 minute halves.

There will be throw-ins.

The GK will not be allowed to punt the ball, and there will be a play out line. This is similar to the players retreating to the halfway line for 4v4. The line will be halfway between the top of the penalty box and the half way line. On all goal kicks or when the GK has the ball in their hands players will drop back to the play out line.

11-13 yr Olds will play 9v9.

This is 8 field players and a GK.

The game will have 30 minute halves.

The only real difference to real soccer at 9v9 is that players cannot head the ball. Other than that offside is in play, throw ins, GK can punt the ball and if the referee chooses there could be Yellow and Red cards.

All of these changes will be covered in the coaching education sessions that will be provided.

Referee Support and Training:

PRFC North Valleywill provide referee training to all refs for Rec soccer. On our Board of Directors we have two highly qualified referees. Corey Rockwellis a FIFA referee and has officiated games at World cups, MLS and College, and Matt Azhocar is a Referee for our State association ASA, and for HS soccer games. Between them they will educate the refs on the new
