1 Coach Behavior

PRFC requires each team, player, coach, team representative, parent and spectator demonstrate good sportsmanship and fair play during all PRFC associated activities. Profanity, racial or sexist comments or other intimidating or abusive language, gestures or actions directed at any player, official, coach, team representative, parent or spectator will not be tolerated and are grounds for removal from the site of the competition, practice or other activity.  Any person or Team associated with the PRFC engaging in such conduct shall be subject to such further disciplinary action as the PRFC may determine in its sole discretion, up to and including expulsion from the program.

Excellent behavior of all coaches of PRFC is expected always.  Coaches are ambassadors of the club and the local community.  Coach behavior reflects on the players, families, team, club and community.

Procedure in the event of a coach breaching the behavior policy:

  • Any occurrence report the behavior to Director of Coaching and Executive Director.

Several sanctions are available to the club because of these actions (see Discipline Policy).

2 Coach recruitment and selection

Coaching PRFC players is a privilege offered to appropriately qualified and experienced individuals.  Prospective coaches must be willing to consent to the commitment expectations outlined by the Director of Coaching each season.

Prior to coaching any PRFC player or team, a coach must receive PRFC approval.  All coaches will be required to submit to a police background check organized by PRFC.  Any parent interested in becoming a coach is encouraged to complete a coaching application form available online and or contact Director of Coaching.

Coaching position (s) available will be posted annually on the club website.  Applications should be submitted online or in writing and sent to Director of Coaching.  Background checks will be initiated by PRFC and may require the prospective coach to consent in writing to the appropriate authority.

Director of Coaching, shall review all applications and select coaches.  Coaching assignments will be communicated by the Director of Coaching and the appointment will last for the soccer seasonal year.  Director of Coaching and Executive Director reserves all rights and privileges in the assignment and dismissal of coaches at any point pre-during and post the commencement of the season.

3 Coaching Education

Coaching PRFC players is a privilege offered to appropriately qualified and experienced parents.  The role of the coach in the lives of young players is held in high regard by PRFC.  To this end, coaches are required to engage in the PRFC Coaching Education Program (see website to learn more).  All Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches are required to accumulate Coaching Credits in a Calendar year and pass a relevant background check.   New coaches to the program will be expected to accumulate the necessary Coaching Credits at or before the individuals one-year anniversary of coaching appointment.

With prior approval, financial reimbursement of course fees will be made by PRFC to candidates after successful completion of all course requirements and on production of a certificate/license.  A copy of the certificate/license should be sent to the Director of Coaching.

4 Coaching Uniform and Footwear

PRFC endeavors to provide coaches with a coaching uniform.  Coaches should wear uniform items at practices and games.  In inclement weather, such as heavy rain, coaches can supplement the uniform with waterproof and warm clothing.

Practice uniform is Gray Shirts, Black shorts and black socks.

Game uniform is Black Shirts, Black shorts and black socks.

PRFC Tracksuits/rain suits can be worn in inclement weather.

For the safety of the coach and players, coaches are required to wear soccer footwear.  On grass fields and synthetic surfaces, coaches can wear studded cleats or all-weather shoes with a ‘pimpled sole’.  Coaches should wear flat soled soccer shoes or sneakers for events occurring indoors or on a hard-flat surface.

5 Competition and league rules

All PRFC coaches and team representatives are expected to be familiar with competition and league rules.  These rules typically differ depending on what competition (league or cup) and tournament the team is entered.   Coaches must advise players, parents and spectators of the requirements as necessary.

Lack of knowledge of these rules will not relieve a team, coach, representative, player, parent or spectator from responsibility to comply with the rules.  Prior to entering a competition, league or tournament, the coach should study the rules.  In addition, the coach should arrange a meeting with players and parents to explain the rules, particularly if the rules are a departure from the norm.

6 LEAGUE VS TOURNAMENT GAME PRIORITY

League games take priority over tournament games.  In the event a team enters a tournament during a weekend when the team has a league game, the Head Coach/Team Manager must ensure the team fulfills its league obligation.  One option is to request a schedule allowing a tournament game to be played at a different time.  If the Head Coach/Team Manager can move the league game to accommodate the tournament game/s without compromising the club’s good standing with the league or opponent, this course of action is acceptable.  Under no circumstances should a team forfeit a league game in favor of a tournament and/or play more than 2 games in one day.

7 Equipment

PRFC provides coaches with equipment packs that can be readily transported and are limited to training vests, cones, goals and a few soccer balls.  It is generally accepted participants will provide soccer equipment including an appropriately sized ball:  US Soccer Federation Recommendations:  7 years and under (size 3), 8 – 11 years (Size 4), 12 years and up (size 5)*

Equipment provided by PRFC is appropriate for its purpose, and helps to create an accessible and stimulating environment.  Equipment is of suitable design and condition, well maintained and conforms to safety standards.  PRFC ensures that sufficient, suitable equipment and materials are available, to provide stimulating activities and play opportunities appropriate for the ages and individual development of all participants attending.  Where third party facilities are used, coaches need to ensure participants do not use defective or unsuitable equipment.  Any equipment not fit for purpose should not be used.  Any item removed from use must be communicated to Director of Coaching.  Suitable replacement items will be provided.
